Creating and managing Polls

Updated 11 days ago

Overview

Polls allow you to quickly gather opinions, votes, and feedback directly in your intranet through simple, standalone, one-question interactions. This article explains how to create, respond to, and manage polls, as well as how visibility and permissions work.polls 1.png

Creating a poll

Polls are enabled by default in the Manage > Application > Employee Listening menu. App managers can enable or disable polls at any time, as well as control whether or not to allow generative AI in poll creation.Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 2.20.44 PM.png

Once enabled at the app level, polls can be created via the Polls menu on the left-hand navigation. Note: All users will have access to the Polls menu so they can always view applicable polls they can participate in. Only those users granted permission by an app manager can create new polls.

  1. From the Polls menu, click Create poll.

  2. If using AI, enter a prompt describing the question you want asked or use one of the suggested prompts. You may see up to five quick-start prompts below the AI field. These are topic ideas generated based on your job title, department, and language settings. They’re designed to help you get started quickly with relevant poll ideas.

  3. Your prompt can include keywords the AI should mention, tone, or any other components. You can always generate a question and edit it manually as you need. More on using AI in polls below. Otherwise, click Or create it manually.Polls create .gif

  4. Input your question and options. Choose Add option to add more. Once finished, click Next.Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 1.35.08 PM.png

  5. Choose which audience this poll should be for. Toggle All organization if the poll is applicable to all users. Otherwise, we can choose from various audiences like Location audiences.Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 1.37.54 PM.png

  6. Once you have your audience chosen, click Done.

  7. Select the participation window from the dropdown. This is how long the voting window will be open on the poll.

  8. Choose whether to allow respondents to :

    • Choose multiple options: Let participants select more than one answer choice.

    • Keep responses confidential: names will be hidden from everyone, including the poll creator and app managers

    • Show results after participation: Allow participants to see results only after they respond. if this toggle is flipped OFF, only poll creators and admins can see results

    • Show results before participation: Display results even before users vote. If this toggle is flipped ON, only poll creators and admins can see results

Note: The Show results before participation option appears only when Show results after participation is turned ON

Present poll feature

The Present feature allows creators and managers to display a poll in full-screen mode during live meetings or events. A QR code is provided so attendees can vote instantly from their devices. The QR code acts as a redirect to the mobile intranet app. If users don't have the app installed, they'll be prompted to log in to the mobile web version via their mobile browser.

Results are displayed live, based on the chosen visibility settings.Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 1.43.40 PM.png

Present poll is especially effective as an icebreaker and a way to increase repeat engagement with your intranet. By creating fun, interactive moments in meetings, it encourages employees to participate and return to the intranet to see results and future polls, helping to build ongoing habits of use.Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 1.45.30 PM.png

Responding to a poll

Any user included in the Audience you selected when creating the poll can respond to it.

Respondents select their choice by clicking on an option. Any respondent can change their selection at any time while the poll is active. Vote changes are tracked in the poll's results CSV download available to poll creators and admins.

Viewing poll results

Depending on the parameters set up during poll creation, all existing results become visible to the respondent only after voting themselves, and are visible immediately once a user votes.

Poll creators can decide how responses and results are shared when setting up a poll:

  • Confidential responses - Participant names are hidden from everyone, including the poll creator and managers. Results are shown only in aggregate, and only once five or more responses have been submitted.

  • Show results after participation - Participants can view poll results only after submitting their vote. Creators and managers can always view results (with participant names, unless Confidential is enabled).

  • Show results before participation - Participants can view poll results before voting. Creators and managers can always view results (with participant names, unless Confidential is enabled).

  • Default (no toggle selected) - Results (including participant names) are visible only to the poll creator and poll managers. Participants cannot see results.

To view results from a poll:

  • Head to the Polls menu and locate your poll. You can use the Search bar by typing in any words or phrases mentioned in the poll. You can't search by creator name. You can also filter results by:

    • All

    • Active

    • Draft

    • Closed

And filter by:

  • Polls created by me

  • Polls I can manage

  • Polls I can participate in

Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 1.49.44 PM.png

Results include:

  • Raw vote counts for each option.

  • Percentages based on total votes.

  • Results update in real time as votes are cast or changed.

Who can see results?

  • Poll creators and poll managers can always access poll results. In confidential polls, they only see aggregate results after five or more responses and participant names are never visible.

  • If enabled by the poll creator, respondents who are not app managers can results.

  • Users who are not part of the chosen audience for the poll will not see results, nor the poll itself.

Permissions and visibility

Any user who falls into the applicable Audience the poll is created for can participate. If the audience is "All organization", that means all active intranet users can see and participate in the poll.

Poll creators and app managers can edit (while in Draft mode) or delete polls.

Permissions:

Edit or remove a poll

Poll creator, app managers

Note:

A poll manager within the same access control group (ACG) can also perform mange functions, such as deleting a poll.

Managing polls

Editing a poll can only be done while the poll is still in Draft mode. Once published, the poll creator cannot edit a poll. Once a poll has closed and voting has concluded, it cannot be republished in any way. Poll visibility is determined by end date or manual closure.

Polls can be closed (ended) or deleted by an app manager or the creator at any time. A closed poll means voting can no longer take place, but results will be available. Deleting a poll means removing it, along with the results, from the intranet entirely.

Poll options menu

Use the options menu (⋯) next to an active poll to manage or share it. Here’s what each option does:

  • Present: Display the poll in presentation mode for meetings or live sessions. This option highlights the poll for participants in real time.

  • End poll: Manually close the poll before its scheduled end time. Once a poll is ended, participants can no longer vote.
Note: This option is unavailable once the poll has already ended.

  • Delete: Permanently remove the poll and all associated responses. Deleted polls cannot be recovered.

  • Copy link: Copy the poll’s shareable link to invite others to participate or view results (depending on poll settings).

  • Download CSV: Export poll results in a CSV file for analysis or reporting.

  • View poll configuration: Review the poll’s setup details, including title, options, visibility, and closing time.

You can also download a CSV of all results for easy offline sharing. Depending on how the poll was configured, the CSV will highlight:

  • Poll question

  • Voter ID

  • Full name of voter

  • Department name of voter

  • Role name (if applicable) of voter

  • Selected option

  • Time the user submitted their response (changed responses from the same user are tracked here as well)

View poll configuration

Use the View poll configuration to view or cross check who can see your poll, how long it stays open, and how participants can interact with it.

Screenshot 2025-10-23 at 10.50.18 AM.png

Target audience

Defines who in your organization the poll is shared with. Only members of the selected audience can view or respond to the poll.

  • All Organization: Makes the poll visible to everyone in your company.

  • Specific Groups or Teams: Targets selected users or departments.

  • The number of users in your audience is displayed for reference.

Participation window

Specifies how long the poll remains open for responses. You can choose from preset durations such as 1 day, 1 week, or a custom period. Once the participation window ends, the poll automatically closes and no further votes can be submitted.

Allow multiple options

Enable this setting to let participants select more than one answer. When turned off, participants can choose only one option.

Keep responses confidential

Hides participant names from everyone, including poll managers. Use this setting when anonymity is important for honest feedback.

Show results after participation

Allows participants to see poll results immediately after they respond. When turned off, only poll managers can view the results until the poll ends.

View Poll results

Poll results help you understand how users responded to a poll. You can view responses by options (total votes per choice) or by participants (individual responses).

polls result.png

Once your poll ends, the Poll results screen shows a summary at the top:

  • Total votes: The total number of responses

  • Unique participants: The number of people who voted

If multiple selections were allowed, the total votes may be higher than the number of participants.

At the bottom of the poll card, you’ll see:

  • The total votes and participants

  • The poll visibility (Public or Private)

  • The date when the poll closed

Example:
18 votes • 7 participants • Public • Closed on Oct 16, 2025

View by options

Use the By options tab to see which choices received the most votes.

Each option shows its name and the number of votes in brackets.
For example:

  • Technical expertise (7)

  • Project management (3)

  • Communication skills (4)

  • Problem-solving ability (4)

Click the arrow next to any option to expand it.
You’ll see the names, departments, and locations of users who selected that option.

If the poll was anonymous, participant names are hidden.

Tip: Use this view to quickly identify which options were most popular.

View by Participants

Switch to the By participants tab to see how each user voted.

Each participant’s row shows:

  • Their name, department, and location

  • The options they selected, marked with checkmarks

For example:

  • Rachel Hublot – QA, Pune
    Technical expertise
    Communication skills

  • RH 243 MH, IND – Finance
    Technical expertise
    Communication skills

If a user’s department or location is not available, it appears as Unknown.

Note: The number of options selected by each participant depends on whether multiple selections were allowed.

Export Results

If you need a report, you can download the results.

  1. Open the poll results screen.

  2. Click the More (⋯) menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Download CSV.

The file includes participant names, selected options, and total votes.

If the poll is confidential, exporting results may be restricted to poll creators or app managers.

Common Scenarios

  • In polls with multiple selections, the total votes can be higher than the participant count.

  • In anonymous polls, participant details are hidden.

  • Once a poll closes, results remain visible but cannot be changed.

  • For restricted polls, only managers can view detailed participant data.

Best Practices

  • Review the By options view for overall trends.

  • Use the By participants view for individual insights.

  • Check poll visibility before sharing results.

  • Keep your polls short and specific for better engagement.

Example use cases

While other Simpplr tools like surveys can work for gathering a lot of important information from your users, you might find more success and convenience when it comes to polls in some real-life use cases that typically require shorter, one-off responses, such as:

  • Team scheduling: Which time works best for next week’s sync?

  • Feedback collection: What format should we use for training?

  • Employee sentiment checks: How comfortable are you with the new tool rollout?

  • Engagement and fun: Vote for the theme of our holiday party!

Using AI to help create polls

Note:

To learn more about Simpplr's commitment to responsible AI and security, click here

When enabled in Manage > Application > Employee Listening, AI generates quick-start prompts along with suggested poll question and answer choices based on the details you provide. You can review, edit, or regenerate the suggestions before finalizing your poll. By default, AI poll generation is enabled. App managers can disable it in Manage > Application > Employee Listening.

  • If using AI to create your poll, you may see up to five quick-start prompts below the AI field. These are topic ideas generated based on your job title, department, and language settings. They’re designed to help you get started quickly with relevant poll ideas. It's worth noting that the AI may not be entirely accurate every time, and you may see fewer than five prompts when creating the poll.Screenshot 2025-08-28 at 8.29.30 AM.png

Polls in Home and Site tiles

image (9).png

You can now place Polls directly on Home and Site dashboards using a dedicated Polls tile. This puts surveys where people already work, so participation does not depend on users hunting for links or pages. Active and closed polls are shown in one place, and each user only sees polls they are part of the audience for.

Who can use this

  • Home and Site managers can add and manage the Polls tile.

  • Poll creators get better reach and higher response rates.

  • All users can view and vote in polls from their dashboard.

Add a Polls tile to your dashboard

  1. Open the Home or Site you want to update and switch to edit mode

  2. Choose Add tile and select Polls.

  3. Give the tile a title or keep the default

  4. Save and add the tile to the page

The tile lists Active and Closed polls and shows key details like visibility and time left before a poll closes. Users can open and vote without leaving the dashboard.

Language behavior for the tile

image (8).png

The system can translate the default tile automatically based on the user’s language. If you manually edit the title or description, the edited version appears the same for everyone, in one language.

Browser notifications for polls

In addition to email and mobile push, polls can now send browser notifications. Users see timely alerts when a poll is published or about to close, even when they are working in the browser.

Who can use this

  • App Managers control the setting.

  • All users receive notifications based on their preferences.

How notifications help

Notifications reduce missed polls. Teams see alerts at the moment a response matters, which improves completion rates without extra reminders.

Manage notification preferences

App Managers enable or disable browser notifications from notification settings.
Users can turn notifications on or off from their own preferences.

Practical tips

Use a clear tile title so people know exactly what to expect.
Place the tile near frequently used sections on the dashboard.
Enable browser notifications to boost participation for time-sensitive polls.

This setup keeps polls visible, reachable, and hard to ignore, without adding clutter or extra steps.

Create and manage access control groups (ACGs) for Polls

ACG.gifAccess control groups (ACGs) for Polls let administrators precisely control who can create, manage, and view specific sets of polls.

Instead of every poll being visible or manageable by all poll creators or site managers, you can:

  • Put users into access control groups.

  • Associate polls (or poll collections/contexts) with those groups.

  • Ensure that only members of a given ACG can create and manage polls within that scope, and access poll configuration and results (where configured).

This improves governance, privacy, and clarity for organisations with multiple departments, brands, regions, or sensitive polling topics.

Who this is for

  • Admins/App managers – configure and assign Poll ACGs.

  • Poll managers/Site managers – create and manage polls within allowed ACGs.

  • End users – respond to polls as usual; ACGs primarily affect who can manage and access them, not general voting (unless your organization uses them to scope visibility).

Key concepts

What is an access control group (ACG)?

An access control group is a named group of users that grants rights to manage or access a particular capability — in this case, Polls.

Think of it as a "who is allowed to own or administer these polls?" group, independent of regular site membership.

Examples:

  • "HR Poll Admins"

  • "Employee Pulse Poll Team"

  • "UK Region Poll Owners"

  • "Leadership Polls ACG"

How ACGs relate to Polls

Depending on how your admins configure them, ACGs can be used to:

  • Decide who can create polls at all.

  • Decide who can create or manage polls for a particular site or workspace, department or region, or use case (such as engagement surveys versus light feedback polls).

  • Restrict access to results to specific people or roles.

Enabling ACGs for Polls (Admin / App manager)

Step 1: Confirm Polls and ACGs features are enabled

Go to Manage > Application (or your admin console). Check that the Polls feature is enabled, then check for Access Control / Access Control Groups:

  • Confirm that access control groups are enabled in general.

  • Some environments may have a Polls-specific ACG or "Governed features" area.

If you don't see ACG configuration for Polls, your environment may need a feature flag turned on, or an upgrade that includes the "Create & manage ACGs for Polls" capability. Contact your Simpplr support representative or internal platform owner for confirmation.

Step 2: Create an ACG for Polls

Go to Manage > Access control or Manage > Access control groups. Click Create group / Add access control group, then enter:

  • Group name – for example, "HR Poll Admins".

  • Description – for example, "Group that can create and manage HR engagement polls".

Under Scope or Feature, select Polls. If the UI supports multi-feature ACGs, ensure Polls is checked.

Add members by searching for users (such as HR partners, employee listening team, or engagement leads). Optionally, add groups or roles if your ACG implementation supports it.

Save the ACG. You can now link it to Polls.

Step 3: Associate ACGs with Polls permissions

Go to Manage > Application > Polls (or Polls settings) and look for:

  • Who can create polls?

  • Who can manage polls?

  • Who can view poll results?

Where the UI offers Everyone / Specific groups / ACGs (or similar), choose Access control groups or Specific groups and select the ACG(s) you created — for example, "HR Poll Admins" or "UK Region Poll Owners".

Save the configuration. From this point, only members of those ACGs can create and/or manage polls per your chosen settings. Other users may still respond to polls according to separate visibility rules (site membership, audience targeting, and so on).

Managing ACG membership for Polls

Add members

Go to Manage > Access control groups and open the ACG you created for Polls. Click Add members, search for and select new users, then save. New members gain the Polls management rights defined by that ACG's association.

Remove members

Open the relevant ACG, locate the user in the member list, and click Remove. Confirm the removal. The user will no longer see Polls management abilities tied to that ACG (creation, editing, results access, and so on), typically after a short cache or refresh delay.

Using Polls with ACGs (Poll creators / managers)

Once ACGs are configured for Polls, your experience as a poll manager may differ slightly from before.

Who can see "Create poll"

If poll creation is limited to certain ACGs, only ACG members will see Create poll in global create menus and site or page-level Poll actions. Non-members will not see the poll creation option, or will see a restricted or disabled state depending on your version.

Creating a poll within your ACG rights

Go to Create > Poll (or the poll creation entry point in your UI). Set the question, answers/choices, audience and where the poll appears (site, global, or segment), and the schedule and duration.

If your version exposes it, confirm the correct ACG is associated with this poll under Ownership or Access control — this is often implied by your rights.

Publish the poll. Only people with rights (members of the Poll ACG plus any necessary site role) can edit the poll or access detailed results, subject to your configuration.

Viewing and managing poll results with ACGs

When ACGs are used to control results access, only members of the specified Poll results ACG (or the same ACG used for creation/management, depending on your setup) can access the full results dashboard and export data (if exporting is enabled). Others may see only aggregated or limited views, or no results UI at all.

To view results, navigate to the poll from the Polls app/module, a site or page where the poll is attached, or a "My polls" or "Polls I manage" list. Click view results. Use filters such as time or audience segments if available, and export or share summary views as allowed by your organisation.

If you have ACG rights but cannot see results, check with your admin that your ACG is still active and properly linked to Poll results access in Polls settings.

Best practices

  • Name ACGs clearly. Use descriptive names like "Polls – Global Admins" or "Polls – HR Engagement" so other admins understand their purpose.

  • Keep ACGs lean. Add only those who truly need poll management rights; use general site roles for broader visibility.

  • Document your model. Maintain an internal KB page listing each Poll ACG, what it controls, and who owns membership changes.

  • Use ACGs for sensitive polls. When polling on sensitive topics (engagement, compliance, DEI), use ACGs to tightly control who can see results.

  • Review membership regularly. When employees move roles or departments, update ACG membership so poll access remains appropriate.

Daily email summaries for poll notifications

Daily email summaries for poll notifications help reduce email noise by combining multiple poll alerts into a single email.

Instead of receiving a separate email each time you're notified about a poll, you can choose to summarise poll notifications daily. When enabled, Simpplr collects your poll-related notifications throughout the day and sends them together in a single daily summary email.

This option is available in Notification Defaults and applies to poll email notifications only.

Who this is for

  • All users who receive poll notifications.

  • Application Managers who want to control the default behaviour for their organisation.

What counts as a poll notification?

Poll notifications are emails related to poll activity — for example:

  • You've been invited to respond to a poll.

  • A poll has been shared with you or your group.

  • A poll is closing soon and you haven't responded yet.

  • Other poll-related alerts configured by your organisation.

When "Summarise daily" is enabled, these events are bundled into one daily summary email instead of being sent individually.

How daily poll summaries work

Simpplr tracks poll notifications you would normally receive during the day. Instead of sending each notification as a separate email, they are aggregated into a single daily email containing a list of relevant poll notifications with links back into Simpplr to view or respond to each poll.

If there are no poll notifications for you on a given day, you won't receive a daily summary email for polls.

What you'll see in your inbox

When enabled, you will receive one email per day (at your organisation's configured digest time) that includes:

  • A short introduction or subject line indicating it's a daily summary of poll notifications.

  • A list of polls relevant to you, such as new polls you've been invited to participate in or polls with updates or reminders.

  • Links to open each poll directly in Simpplr.

The exact layout and text may vary depending on your organisation's branding and configuration, but the structure will bring all your poll-related actions for the day into one place.

How to enable daily poll summaries (end users)

Whether you can change this setting depends on how your Application Manager has configured notification defaults and overrides. In most cases, users can adjust their own notification preferences.

Go to your profile and open Notification preferences (or Settings > Notifications, depending on your environment). Look for the Poll notifications section (or the equivalent under Summaries & Digests / Email notifications). For poll email notifications, select Summarise daily (or Daily summary), then save your changes.

Once enabled, you will receive poll notifications in a daily summary email rather than as individual poll emails.

Note: If your Application Manager has enforced defaults for summaries and digests, some options may be locked and not editable at the user level.

How to configure defaults (Application Managers)

As an Application Manager, you can define the default behaviour for poll email notifications via notification defaults, allowing you to roll out daily poll summaries across your organisation and reduce email fatigue.

Go to Manage application and navigate to Defaults > Notifications > Summaries & digests (wording may vary slightly). Locate the settings related to poll notifications under the employee listening or polls section. Set the default to Summarise daily for poll email notifications, then save your changes.

Depending on your environment and configuration, you may also have options such as:

  • Use recommended – applies Simpplr's recommended summary/digest defaults.

  • Overwrite notification settings for all users – forces the chosen summary/digest defaults, including poll daily summaries, for every user in the organisation.

Note: Use overwrite with care, as this will replace existing user-level notification preferences.

Poll block support in content

poll block.gifPolls can now be embedded directly inside content, so employees can vote while they’re reading an article—without navigating to a separate poll page. This makes it easier to gather quick feedback in context (for example, after an announcement, policy update, or event recap).

What is the Poll block?

The Poll block is a content block available in the editor. When added to a page or post, it displays an existing poll inline so readers can participate immediately. Poll voting, results, and permissions continue to follow the same rules as they do for polls elsewhere in the platform—this feature simply changes where the poll is shown.

How to add a poll to your content

  1. Create a new piece of content (or open an existing one in edit mode).

  2. Place your cursor where you want the poll to appear.

  3. Open the More menu (the “...” option in the editor).

  4. Select Poll.

  5. Search for and select the poll you want to embed.

  6. Publish (or update) the content.

Once published, the poll appears as part of the page.

What readers will see

When employees open the content, they’ll see the poll embedded inside the page:

  • If they haven’t voted yet, they can choose an option and submit their vote directly within the content.

  • After voting, they will either see results or not see results depending on the poll’s existing settings (for example, whether results are shown immediately or only after the poll closes).

Permissions and access

The Poll block respects the same access rules as the poll itself. If a user does not have permission to view or vote in the poll, they won’t be able to interact with it as expected (what they see depends on your configuration and permissions).

Editing or removing the Poll block

block edit.gif

If you need to change the poll later, edit the content and update the Poll block selection (or remove the block entirely). Removing the Poll block from a page does not delete the poll—it only removes it from that specific content.

Best practice

Place the poll near the part of the content it relates to—for example, at the end of an announcement with a simple question like “Was this update clear?” or “Which option do you prefer?” This typically improves participation because employees can respond immediately.

Below is a narrative, ready-to-publish KB for Share polls in Home and Site feeds, written in a simple, continuous style (not bullet-heavy).

Share polls in Home and Site feeds

Poll share.gifYou can now share polls directly into the Home feed and Site feeds. This makes it easier to collect quick feedback from the right audience, without asking people to open a separate page or go hunting for the poll elsewhere.

When a poll is shared in a feed, employees can see it as part of their regular scrolling experience and respond inline, which usually leads to higher participation and faster insights.

What this feature does

Previously, polls were mainly accessed from their own dedicated area or via a link. With this enhancement, you can surface your polls where people already spend their time: the Home feed and specific Site feeds.

In practice, this means:

  • You can choose to share a poll to the global Home feed if you want broad visibility.

  • You can choose to share a poll into a particular Site’s feed when the poll is relevant only for that site’s audience.

  • People see the poll as a post in the feed and can vote directly there, without navigating away.

The poll itself is still managed in the usual place. This feature simply provides more convenient and contextual ways for people to see and respond to your polls.

How to share a poll in the Home feed

If you have permission to create or manage polls and to post to the Home feed, you can share a poll there.

To do this, open the area where polls are managed and locate the poll you want to promote. From there, use the option to share or post the poll to the Home feed. Depending on your setup, this might appear as a “Share” button, a “Post to Home feed” option, or something similar in the poll’s actions menu.

Once shared, the poll appears as a feed item on Home. Users who can access the Home feed and have permission to see that poll will see it in their stream, can read the question, and cast their vote directly from the feed item.

How to share a poll in a Site feed

You can also target a specific site’s audience by sharing a poll in that Site’s feed.

First, ensure that the poll is relevant to that site’s members. Then, from the poll actions or sharing options, choose to post it to a particular site feed. You may be asked to select the site from a list if you have access to more than one.

After sharing, the poll appears in that site’s activity feed just like other posts or updates. Site members who can access both the site and the poll can see it and vote inline, without leaving the site.

How voting works in feeds

When a poll is shared in a feed, the voting experience is embedded directly in the feed item.

If a user hasn’t voted yet, they will see the poll question and response options. They can select an option and submit their vote from within the feed. Once they have voted, the poll view will update based on the poll’s configuration. For example, they may see aggregated results or a confirmation that their vote was recorded. Any settings you have already defined for the poll, such as whether to show results immediately or only after closing the poll, continue to apply. The feed sharing does not change how the poll behaves; it only changes where it is displayed.

All responses collected through Home and Site feeds are counted in the same way as responses from any other location where the poll appears. You continue to see the combined results in the poll’s analytics or reporting area.

Permissions and access

The ability to share a poll to feeds depends on your permissions. Typically, you need permission both to access and manage the poll and to post content in the corresponding feed (Home or a specific site).

From the end-user perspective, people will only see a shared poll in a feed if they have permission to see that poll and access that feed. For example, if a poll is restricted to a certain audience or is scoped by site or ABAC rules, users outside that audience will not suddenly gain access just because the poll has been shared in a feed. The same access control rules continue to apply.

When to use Home vs. Site feeds

Use the Home feed when the poll is relevant to a broad population, such as all employees, a whole region, or a company-wide initiative. This is best for organization-level questions, sentiment checks, and high-level feedback.

Use a Site feed when the poll is specific to a particular group, such as a department, project team, community, or location-based site. This is best for more focused questions, such as feedback on a local event, team process changes, or site-specific content.

Best practices

A few simple practices can help you get better results from polls shared in feeds:

  • Add a short, clear poll question that can be understood quickly while scrolling.

  • Make sure response options are concise and mutually exclusive.

  • Share the poll in the feed where its audience actually spends time (Home or the most relevant site).

  • Allow enough time for people to see and answer the poll before you close it or move on to decisions based on the results.

Share polls to Home and Site feeds during creation

toggle.gifPoll creators can now share a poll directly to the Home feed, one or more Site feeds, or both, at the point of creation. No separate step after publishing is required. Sharing is built into the creation flow and follows the same access and visibility rules used for other feed content. Available on web. For poll creators, site managers, and Employee listening admins.

How it works

Share options during creation

The poll creation page includes a Share poll toggle. It is enabled by default. When enabled, you can choose where the poll is shared before posting.

If you turn the toggle off, no feed sharing occurs and the poll will not appear in any feed after creation.

The Home feed option is shown only if your role allows you to create Home feed posts. It is selected by default when available. If you do not have permission to post to the Home feed, the option is hidden. You can still share to Site feeds where you have permission.

Site feed

The Site feed option is shown if you have permission to post to at least one site feed. If you select Site feed, you must choose one or more sites before you can post. The poll cannot be posted with Site feed selected but no site chosen.

Optional message

You can add an optional message when sharing. If provided, the message appears above the poll in the feed post. It does not alter the underlying poll content.

Permissions and visibility

Feed access and poll access are evaluated independently. Both must be met for a user to see and interact with the poll in the feed.

Situation

What the user sees

Has access to both the feed and the poll

Full poll card. Can vote and view results as applicable.

Can see the feed post but does not have access to the poll

A restricted-content message within the post. Cannot vote or view results.

The shared poll is deleted after sharing

A deleted-content message in place of the poll card.

Note: Standard feed actions, including like, comment, and share, are available on the poll feed post. Real-time updates for poll activity in the feed are supported.
