ABAC: Export audience members to CSV

Updated last month

Overview

Audience managers and App managers can export the current members of an Audience to a CSV file. Use this to verify that an Audience contains the right users before targeting a campaign, newsletter, or communication.

Who this is for

Users with access to Manage > Audiences, including App managers and users with the Audience manager role.

Before you begin

An Audience does not store a fixed list of people. Membership is resolved from user profile fields and conditions, and changes automatically as those fields change. The CSV export is a point-in-time snapshot of everyone who matches the Audience rules at the moment you export. It is not a permanent record.

How to export audience members

ABAC CSV (1).gifFollow the given steps to download the CSV:

  1. Go to Settings (Gear icon) > Audiences

  2. Locate the Audience you want to audit

  3. Click the Users count in that row to open the members modal

  4. In the modal, click Download CSV

The exported file contains the currently resolved active members of that Audience, along with standard and custom user data fields for detailed reporting.

What the export includes and excludes

Includes

  • All currently resolved active users who match the Audience conditions.

  • Additional standard and custom user data columns for richer auditing.

Does not include

  • Any history of past changes to the Audience. The CSV shows only who matches the conditions right now, not who was added or removed earlier.

  • A reason for each user. The file does not explain why a specific user did or did not match the Audience conditions.

Troubleshooting

Download CSV option is not visible

  • What happened: The account may not have the required permissions, or the members modal has not been opened.

  • What to do: Confirm that the account has App Manager or Audience manager permissions. Then click the Users count to open the members modal. The download link is only available from within that modal.

Expected users are missing from the CSV

  • What happened: Audience membership is resolved in real time from user profile fields. Users whose fields do not currently match the Audience conditions will not appear in the export.

  • What to do: Confirm that the affected users are active on the platform and that their profile fields currently match the Audience conditions. If fields have recently changed, membership will update accordingly.

The CSV or modal is slow to load

  • What happened: Large Audience scans take a few seconds to resolve and generate the member list.

  • What to do: Wait a few seconds and retry. This is expected behaviour for an Audience with a high member count.

Auditing an Audience

To validate that an Audience includes the intended users:

  1. Go to Settings (Gear icon) > Audiences and locate the Audience.

  2. Click the Users count, then click Download CSV.

  3. Open the file in Excel or Google Sheets and filter or sort by department, location, or any other included profile fields to verify that membership matches your intent.

The CSV provides a snapshot of the Audience's current active members that you can inspect and share.
