Introduction

App tiles allow you to integrate some of your org's most commonly used applications right on the home or site dashboard of your Simpplr intranet. Simpplr offers a number of pre-built app tiles, including:

Simpplr also allows you to create custom app tiles.

This feature is currently available to non-EU customers, and will be available to EU customers in an upcoming release.

Use cases for app tiles

Permissions around App tiles

Only App managers and those with permissions will be able to add new app tiles. End users will never have the option to add a new app tile to their dashboards, regardless of dashboard configuration.

Depending on the home dashboard configuration, either the App manager will be the only one who can edit tiles, or any end user can edit their own tiles (if already created by the App manager). With each App tile, App managers can choose to make individual tile settings App manager defined or User defined. 

If the tile itself is App manager defined, there will be an option to make the tile "user editable." If that "user editable" option is selected, users can edit the title of the tile, but not the tile type or data within it. If the tile is set to User defined, the user will be able to edit the data shown within the tile, even if the dashboard is App manager controlled.

To get started with prebuilt applications, as the admin user or one with applicable permissions:

1. Go to Manage > Application > Integrations > Custom apps > Add custom app > Add prebuilt app.
   

AI tile builder for Display tiles, Form app tiles and Hybrid app tiles

With the recent release you can let AI create Display tiles, Form app tiles and Hybrid app tiles for you. Instead of manually designing everything, simply describe what you want in plain language, and AI will generate a tile draft for you.

How to create a tile with AI

1. Go to Create app tile and choose from Display tiles, Form app tiles and Hybrid app tiles.
2. Fill in the basics: connector, tile name, description, and the API action you want.
3. Get API response for the selected API action.
4. Click Generate tile using AI.
5. You’ll see two options:
   • Pick from suggested prompts (based on the API response of connector/API you selected).
   • Or, type your own prompt (e.g., “Show the 5 most recent support tickets with status and priority”).
6. Click Generate. AI will work in the background and create a draft tile for you.

What to expect

• It usually takes 30–60 seconds for the AI to finish creating.
• You can leave the screen and come back later — the tile will continue to generate.
• Once ready, you’ll see a preview of the tile.
• You can then:
  • Keep it (and edit further if needed), or
  • Discard it (and try again with a new prompt).

Tips

• Be specific in your prompt. Example: “Show the last 10 sales orders with customer name and total amount.”
• If the result isn’t quite right, just try again with a clearer or different prompt.
• You can always adjust the tile later in the editor.

Things to know about using AI to create tiles

• Right now, AI can only create Display Tiles (read-only).
• AI uses the API data plus your prompt to design the tile, but sometimes you may want to make small edits afterward.

Limits & restrictions

• You can generate up to 50 AI-created tiles per day.

Prompts must describe valid display tile use cases. Random or unrelated prompts will be discarded and not counted toward useful tile creation.
