We've refreshed the Simpplr mobile app navigation to make posting and messaging faster, while keeping everything you rely on within easy reach. This article covers what's changed, where things have moved, and how to get around the new layout.
Before and after user experience of the mobile app navigation.
The updated navigation shifts the app from a browse-first model to a create-and-communicate-first model. Dedicated tabs for People, Sites, and Notifications have been consolidated to make room for two new priorities on the bottom bar: a central Create button and a dedicated Messaging tab.
Element | Previous layout | Updated layout |
|---|---|---|
Profile access | Avatar in top-left | Inside More (bottom-right) |
Search | Centre of top bar | Left of top bar |
Notifications | Dedicated bottom tab | Bell icon in top-right |
Content creation | No dedicated shortcut | Central circular Create button |
Messaging | Not on main bar | Dedicated tab |
People | Dedicated bottom tab | Moved to More |
Sites | Dedicated bottom tab | Moved to More |
The top bar now contains two elements:
Search (left) Tap the search field to find people, sites, content, and files across your intranet. The field spans most of the bar, making it the primary action at the top of every screen.
Notifications (right) Tap the bell icon to view mentions, replies, approvals, and other alerts directed at you. A badge appears on the bell when you have unread notifications.
The profile avatar has moved out of the top bar. Profile and settings are now accessed from More in the bottom bar.
Use the bottom navigation bar to access key areas of the app and move between core functions. Each item provides direct entry to a primary section, helping you navigate and act without breaking your flow.
This needed a cleanup, not decoration. Your original is verbose, inconsistent, and repeats “Use this…” like filler. Here’s a tight KB-ready version:
Home: your personalised landing screen. Displays featured carousels, Must Reads, Product Hub sites, and recommended content.
Feed: a chronological stream of posts, announcements, and updates from sites and people you follow.
Create + (centre): opens a quick-create panel to post content, such as a post, photo, video, or site update.
Available from anywhere in the app without navigating to a site.
Messaging: direct and group conversations with colleagues. Use for one-to-one chats and small group discussions, separate from site-based conversations.
More: access additional options, including your profile, settings, People directory, Sites list, saved items, and sign-out.
The central Create button promotes content creation to a top-level action, reducing the number of taps needed to publish. Messaging earning its own tab reflects a similar shift: direct conversation is now treated as a core use case rather than a secondary feature.
Trade-off: browsing People and Sites now takes an extra tap via More. For users whose primary task is directory lookup or site navigation, this is slightly slower. For users whose primary tasks are posting and messaging, it's faster.
Use this table to find items that have moved in the updated layout.

Q: Where did my profile picture go from the top bar?
Ans: Your profile and all related options have moved into More at the bottom-right of the screen. Tap More, then tap your name or avatar.
Q: How do I access the People directory now?
Ans: Tap More, then tap People. Everything that was on the old People tab is still there.
Q: Can I still get to my sites quickly?
Ans: Yes. Sites you've pinned or visited recently still appear on your Home screen. For the full list, tap More → Sites.
Q: What does the circular button in the middle do?
Ans: It's the new Create button. Tap it to post content — a post, photo, video, or site update — from anywhere in the app.
Q: Is Messaging the same as site comments?
Ans: No. Messaging is for direct and group conversations between colleagues. Comments and discussions on site content remain on the site itself.
Q: Why isn't Notifications a tab anymore?
Notifications moved to the bell icon in the top-right so it's visible from every screen, not just when you're on a specific tab. Unread notifications show a badge on the bell.
Q: Can my admin change what appears in More?
Yes. Your organisation may customise the items in More, so your list may differ from what's shown here.
Q: Will the old layout come back?
No. The updated layout is the new default across the mobile app.
