How can I embed URLs in content?

You can embed the following types of URLs in the content editor.

  • Public-facing links
  • Access-restricted links (e.g. Google docs/sheets)
  • Video (e.g. YouTube video URLs)
  • Images

These URLs must be embedded using their iframe in the content editor video icon.

Note: Not every public URL is embeddable. If a URL can’t be embedded, you’ll see an error stating “the provided URL cannot be embedded”.

Embedding with iframes

Most embeddable resources like Google Docs and YouTube provide iframes for embedding.

 

Note: To access an embedded Google Docs URL, the user must be logged into their Google account.

    Hello!

    I saw the status update about video embeds in Newsletters, and I've also been looking through your Help Center. And I'm confused. Questions:

    • When you say "embed," what does that mean? If you embed a video into a newsletter, does that mean that if you click the thumbnail/link, it opens inside the Newsletter? Or, does it take you to the source (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube)?
    • Have we always had the ability to embed videos in Newsletters (the add-on)? Or is it a relatively new feature? Or is this only for customers with Native Video? Can videos also be embedded from external sources (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube)?

    • I just tried embedding a video from Vimeo in one of our Newsletter templates. I was able to do this by copying the video link into the URL field. It seemed to work fine, so I inserted a screenshot below of what it looks like. When I click it, it takes me to the video on Vimeo.
    • Is this feature supposed to NOT be working? That is what the status update says.


    I'd appreciate some clarification.

    Hi Michelle. Embed can mean a few things; in the case of Simpplr newsletters, it means you can copy the source link  (e.g., from YouTube or Vimeo) and paste it into your newsletter so that the video previews with a thumbnail and acts as a redirect link to the source. In other cases like content, you can actually drop an embed code from the source. An embed code will allow you to view the video directly in Simpplr (or wherever you paste that code). That exact functionality is not available in the newsletter, but video thumbnails can be embedded to show the whole video. And if you have the Native Video add-on product, those videos can be embedded as well.
